Today, Friday, July 5, 2024, at 3:57 pm PDT, is a new moon in Cancer at 14 degrees 23 minutes. This moon is out-of-bounds beyond the ecliptic, so consider this a moon that has a lot more emotional depth and it is a bit on the wild side. This new moon chart has a Scorpio rising sign with the co-ruler Mars in Taurus applying to a conjunction with the planet of liberation and chaos, Uranus. Mars is at 19 degrees Taurus 30 minutes with Uranus at 25 degrees 56 minutes. When Mars makes the exact conjunct there is an opening for upheavals of all sorts creating a rippling through the crust of things that seemed fixed and steadfast. Nothing is steadfast when Uranus touches it through divine timing. Impermanence is our truth.
The moon and sun in the 8th house symbolize a focus on the values of others, or the taboo subjects of death, the occult, and the timing of our lives with something we may find quite fearsome, a moment standing at the crossroads. We have a blind spot we need to deeply examine. First, what is the most fearsome thing that we must face? It is important to recognize what that may be. The ruler of the 8th house is Mercury in Leo in the 9th, in the place of foreign lands and travels, higher learning, foreigners, and religion. Mercury is opposite Pluto in Aquarius, separating but still potent and close opposition. This is a tense moment for those realizing at this moment their ego has led them off the path of service, how now their ego and professional image may be under great pressure to transform their thinking. It is a moment to change, to transform the ego that has been created with a certain image. The ego within us is important, it helps us survive. However, there are times we must traverse to surrender the ego and operate from the higher self. There is likely a lot on the line, decisions have now led us into on the hot seat with a group or large collective of people, and this is the peak hour (month) for great change. This may ring true for some people, but not all at this time. It may be powerful to reflect on other times this was true because in the collective this theme is rather potent right now. Reflection gives us the space to integrate what we learned from a choice or decision we made.
The 8th house in astrology is often viewed for joint finances, or simply other people’s money, one might say even the money from those that go into political campaigns. Mercury ruling the 8th can indicate our fears related to our money, how we are in the shared experiences of financial matters with a partner. It can be the perception of protecting another in how it is managed, but there may be negative thoughts on the matter as well. Negativity may be in how much one feels controlled by the finances tied to their partners, even if it has some liberation with it. It can also be a meaning that ties back to faith or having faith in the way it is taking care and supporting. Moon and Sun in Cancer seeks to make security priority and foundational.
Venus in Cancer at 22 degrees is at an 8 degree orb from this new moon, within the same sign it amplifies our love and the desire to be nurturing and hold space for being nurtured. We may offer our warmth through food and comfort with the placement of Venus this next week. Venus trines (easy flow) to Neptune in Pisces which is a creative and flowing energy for romantic, colorful imagination. It is a lovely energy to align with for creative pursuits in painting, music and cooking. What might you create in flow? This new moon energy is good to align with to enhance your spaces at home with fresh images or paintings and create meals that delight your sense of taste.
In the USA this new moon has several planets in Cancer touching on the Cancer stellium of planets that were in the July 8, 1776, noon chart in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I think the moment the United States of America proclaimed its independence publicly was a significant moment for individuals and the future opportunity to proclaim one’s free will and individuality, simply for the free will action to proclaim it! The Aries moon in that specific chart speaks that symbolism so eloquently, and in that proclamation is Chiron in Aries, that also reveals the truth of the great desire to be seen, to be heard and for its right to exist, a true moment of breaking out to breakthrough to something new. What is it that our ancestors our founding fathers and families desired so greatly? On the midheaven is a stellium in Cancer, security is key and to have security to be authentic of oneself in life. That desire, that call to the heavens and proclamation has shadow too, and it will have to understand that to heal and to continue its evolution.
Here is a view of that chart, one to consider beyond the usual Sibley chart.
Right now the USA is in a key election year, and we are standing on an interesting and precarious precipice. I am not going to delve too deep into the politics of the moment, but I think it is on everyone’s mind how this will go. Our country is at a critical point, will it go well? The planetary transits viewed via astrology suggests more challenging times ahead for the USA, for about five years. The question is, with whom in the leadership positions will be guiding us through this period of time? Whoever is elected will have a tough slog through the depths of how our polarized nation will find its way back to greater balance, politically and beyond.
Mars in Taurus within a few degrees of Uranus could be building toward a breakthrough moment. Will that be the change up for President Biden in his decision about continuing with the campaign for election? Looking at his chart we can easily see the tension with his behind the scenes 12th house planets in Scorpio and the transiting Mars-Uranus in Taurus energy sparking something. July 15th is a critical moment for President Biden, the Mars-Uranus conjunction is opposite his sun, Mercury, Venus in Scorpio at the same time the transiting moon is conjunct his Mars in Scorpio, along with transiting Jupiter in Gemini is on his natal Saturn in Gemini. There is a high probability of change for him, made by him or suggested to him privately by his wife and key people close to him. Saturn in Pisces transiting to his chart nadir is also a karmic moment in time, and now retrograde. Pluto in retrograde in Aquarius is also transforming his life experiences with a harsh square to his natal moon in Taurus. As Mars moves closer to his natal Uranus in Gemini at 2 degrees that is another planetary transit indicating the great potential for a change. We will see collectively what decisions will be made.
Some things are out of our control and we are participating as voters (in the USA) at a distance. It will be interesting to see the flow of this critical time in our collective history. Whatever it is, I am hopeful that there is a path for us to figure whatever we need to figure out collectively. The astrology gives us the truth of the matter we have in any given moment, it speaks the truth even beyond the numerous astrologers, because astrologers can make mistakes or have a blind spots of bias, but the truth always appears and it is reflected in the astrology. It is difficult to speak to truths we may not want to face directly. Often in our world we have conditioned ourselves for soft agreeable landings, we do not like to see or speak to the bad things that can come to light too harshly for fear of speaking it into existence, a fear perhaps considering our powerful voice in the process of manifesting our collective world.
This month it is important to consider how the coming Mars-Uranus conjunction July 15th is in your own life. Consider where Taurus is in your natal chart to understand where breakdown or breakthrough has potential in your life. This energy may manifest in the form of an accident or sudden events. It is a high probability that while the Sun is in Cancer we have an opportunity to consider the zone or places where we feel most secure, so in the event of unexpected changes we may prioritize the protection of this sacred space, this may be internally or external in our physical world or both. Have you thought of what is most important for your well-being and security? Having your home the place you are most nurtured and what do you do to create it that way? When life gets chaotic how do you bring it back to harmony? This month you may review what your priorities are for keeping this sacred nurturing space. You may decide how to give your home and sacred space greater strength to hold you and your loved ones from the intensity of the world outside. You also may be someone that understands you bring that safety and nurturing to others through your service to the world and you bring your strength to that purpose. Namaste. Bless this moment.
