UP the Mountain Saturn Return in Capricorn PART TWO – Rayne
Individuals born with Pluto in Scorpio are more likely to face power struggles and issues with the nature of their shadow (and others) than any other generation alive. For example, when our federal, state, and local governments faced challenges with climbing cases of coronavirus in this past year, consider the impact on the generation that was born when Pluto was in the sign of Scorpio, between November 1983 and November 1995 (12 years). Rayne is one of the many souls born with Pluto in Scorpio, and it should not be surprising to witness themes of death, power struggles, fears, and anxiety when dealing with a crisis like this and to see the transformation those experiences bring. Her perspective of family and home, the view of Pluto in her natal fourth house, will be completely redefined over the course of her life. Rayne has been through a lot in her young thirty years. She is a survivor. You can read the first part of her story here. This year has proven to be challenging, but she focuses on what she can do, even in these most unstable and vulnerable of years for the world.
In January 2020 I spoke with Rayne before the quarantine orders had hit California where she lives. I learned that Rayne moved from her aunt’s home to her own place with her brothers on January 25, 2019. Rayne’s aunt communicated that it was the end of their time legally for her to be there in their home under their responsibility of care. It was time for Rayne to launch into the world and find a home of her own. In this understand Rayne and her brothers swiftly left under a strained situation. The chart below shows the transits the day she moved. The day Rayne moved with her brothers, Saturn was at 14 degrees Capricorn with Pluto at 21 degrees Capricorn, the mid-point of these two transiting planets essentially right on her natal Saturn at 18 degrees of Capricorn.
The pressure and intensity are very visible in this chart. Mars in Aries at 16 degrees was squaring her natal Saturn and applying to it, which reveals how difficult this move was for Rayne. However, the transit also gave her the fire to move, as Mars made a trine to her Leo Ascendant. She would likely carry some wounded feelings with the hard-cardinal energy of this move being a challenging experience with her aunt emotionally. Mars, the co-ruler of Scorpio, would be the emotional energy of the day of moving. In time, with courage, Rayne may decide to address and face the conflict with her aunt. The transiting lunar nodes also reflect this woundedness with the north node in Cancer within 2 degrees of her natal Chiron in Cancer in the 12th house, which may speak to lingering grief or sorrow on family or her personal security feelings about home and where she feels safe.
The transiting Sun and Mercury in Aquarius and the transiting moon in Libra (the air signs) would be helpful for knowing what she had to do to make important decisions. Transiting Mercury in Aquarius was aspecting her natal Mars in Gemini in her 10th house on the day she moved; the moon also in a trine (120-degree aspect) with her natal Mars. Finding a place of her own with her brothers is an opportunity for creating her own sanctuary and to heal the lingering wounds that are related to family themes. She is overcoming fears and difficult family bonds with each decision she makes for her independence and for the life that supports and empowers her.
Rayne had more than one travel experience in the past three years, which highlights her Saturn in the 5th house, and Mars rules her 9th house of long-distance travel, and by transits, we can see how the two planets in the transits reflected the opportunity for her to travel. The Mars transiting her 9th house also shows the connection to the theme of higher education. Most of her travel was related to her work, so with Saturn so close to her 6th house cusp within the symbolism of the travel, there is a connection to 6th house themes as well.
On September 21, 2018, Rayne traveled across the US to an event in Philadelphia. Transiting Mars in Aquarius was in a trine with her natal Mars, which rules her 9th house of long-distance travel. The transiting south node in Aquarius in 2018 added to the energy supporting her travels (Mars rules 9th house). Looking back in 2018, transiting Saturn at 2 degrees Capricorn was in a square with her natal Moon at 1 degree of Aries. Though Jupiter was in Scorpio, transiting Rayne’s 4th house, it was in a sign co-ruled by Mars. Mars in Gemini in her 10th house would be activated by the transiting Mars in Aquarius for long-distance travel. In April of 2019, she also planned a trip to Atlanta, going after her birthday on September 21st through the 23rd. She was to be in Atlanta for her graduation from an IT training program. Rayne was picked to go from a pool of candidates, and she was fortunate to be selected. Transiting Mars in Aquarius is square to Uranus in Taurus in her 9th house may have been part of the unexpected course of events that brought this travel experience into her reality. The unexpected drawing of her name to being selected to go seems rather random, and yet the astrology aligns very well to travel themes for Rayne. Both Venus and Jupiter in Sagittarius are in a trine to her Leo Ascendant for the 2019 travel, clearly a blessing for her.
Jupiter in Sagittarius in 2019 clearly supports the delineation of major travel in the transits for the trip to Atlanta. It is also noticeable that she traveled on the same day in both 2018 and 2019. This may indicate a pattern for potential future experiences with Jupiter or Mars transits. Mars, the ruler of the 9th house, relates to higher education, which was an aspect of both the training program and the summit for the acknowledgment of her reward. The chart has transiting Mars applying to the transiting Sun in Virgo (just after her birthday), with Venus and Mercury in the cardinal air sign of Libra, bringing positive support to her Mars from a trine by sign, though Venus is wide in aspect by degree. Jupiter in Sagittarius in 2019 is also applying to a trine aspect with her Leo Ascendant.
Rayne’s solar returns for both 2018 and 2019 reveal an ascendant in Gemini highlighting Mercury, which in her solar return is in Virgo, a sign Mercury rules. Saturn in her 2018 solar return was just at 2 degrees 32 minutes (retrograde) in a trine aspect with the solar return Uranus in Taurus exact in degree. The solar return Saturn is within 3 degrees of her natal Uranus in Capricorn. Mercury at zero degrees Virgo in the solar return offers the supportive energy in her first house of self-identity. In her solar return of 2018, Pluto was conjunct her natal Saturn at 18 degrees Capricorn with only a 1-minute separation of arc. It would be a year that could bring to the surface concerns around her work (6th house) or her health. Jupiter in the 2018 solar return, in her 4th house of home in Scorpio conjunct her natal Pluto, would emphasize her history with painful memories of her father and mother. Jupiter’s passing through Scorpio this year will be emotionally challenging. Mars in Capricorn at 29 degrees in the Solar Return once again emphasizes 6th house themes of her daily work and her health, which may bring up some new issues or just reflect that routine things, such as dentist visits, may become more important. I did not delve into health issues with Rayne in our conversations, but I mention that here for the symbolism potential in her solar returns.
Rayne’s 2019 solar return Ascendant is in Leo conjunct her natal Venus and is a marker to anticipate a significant year for receiving an acknowledgment. Mars in the 2019 solar return is also conjunct her sun in Virgo and is in a beautiful trine to her Taurus midheaven (almost exact by degree as well). In her 2019 solar return, Saturn in Capricorn was at 14 degrees 1 minute (retrograde), applying by a trine as well to her midheaven. Rayne’s 2019 solar return Neptune in Pisces is powerfully opposing her Virgo solar return stellium and her natal Mercury and Sun, with Jupiter in Sagittarius T-square, which is evidence that boundaries as an issue will play out for her over the year as well. These boundary issues have arisen in her new home with her brothers and at her job when dealing with working from home, along with the rest of the world, with the pandemic. These issues will also be visible in her 2020 solar return.
Notice that Neptune in her solar return trines her natal Pluto on the angle of her 4th house. The psychic space for Rayne is quite open, with no boundaries, and Neptune reveals that it would be impossible to close them, so there will be the need to go with the flow. Her own Neptune in Capricorn (retrograde at her birth), receiving the energy of Saturn in Capricorn stimulates her awareness of this vulnerable place. Neptune is part of the transformation with her Pluto and the North Node in Cancer. Is this a new awareness about her connection to something bigger? Astrology can help see and articulate this enhanced awareness, supporting her potential for heightened intuition via the symbolism of the planets’ movements. Or perhaps her values (2nd house) are changing dramatically at this moment?
Neptune is symbolic of the finite focus of Virgo dissolving into what is hidden (8th house) and to what is more infinite in its nature than that in which she participates. The material world of Capricorn comes through in how she creatively works for something beyond her own values. Her North Node in Aquarius is coming to life in a more dynamic way, especially in late December 2020 when Jupiter and Saturn reach zero degrees of Aquarius and are conjunct her Lot of Fortune. Additional opportunities for the work she does that serve the collective will become visible on December 21, 2020. She is likely to be invited once again into higher education-themed matters or long-distance travel.
This next year Rayne has greater momentum with her 2020 solar return with Mercury at the 29 degrees of Virgo and it will have something incredible to bring her understanding and perception of her world. The 29th degree is a critical degree placement; it is a flag to the individual that there is an important opportunity on the horizon since her solar energy is ruled by Mercury, which rules her Leo Ascendant. This opportunity will not be without the sting of some new perceptions. Solar return Uranus is important in that it is at the top of her chart on her midheaven and will near another trine with her own Uranus in Capricorn in mid-January 2021. The chances for a new relationship opening next year are quite strong for Rayne, given a few astrological considerations.
First, her 7th house is highlighted as Jupiter and Saturn enter Aquarius. Transiting Uranus will station in January 2021, which brings an almost exact trine to her 5th house Uranus, which will also have transiting Venus in a trine with Uranus the day it is stationing. Astrologically, it can also be more work-based relationships, too, as the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction also trines her Mars in her 10th house of career and public persona. Her 4th house and 9th house will be activated again quite profoundly, giving her a boost or demand in the work she is doing. Uranus is unpredictable. We consider the planet’s natal position and the house of the transit and sign where the liberation or sudden events occur.
Note that for Rayne the solar return ascendant of this year’s birthday (2020) is Scorpio 8 degrees 8 minutes, opposite transiting Uranus. Is this an experience in her career (10th house) that rocks her core and shakes her home? What event occurs that is openly visible? The 10th house is where your life is quite visible in the public eye. For Rayne, her Venus in her first house rules her Taurus 10th house and Midheaven.
As I complete her Part Two story (mid-November 2020) Rayne shared with me, she is once again feeling a disruption in her home as she searches for a new apartment. Shared that she has recently had a disagreement with one of her brothers who moved out, after she had also helped find a job during the pandemic within her team at work, giving him that flexibility to move out on his own. His move has left her an issue with the cost of their place they had together. She and her younger brother are relocating to help control their living expenses. She found and was approved on November 10th for a new place by her application quickly (within three hours). One more tangible experience of Rayne realizing her self-confidence in unexpected moments.
She is managing through the tumultuous relationship with one brother but is painfully aware of the financial and emotional disruption and her increasing desire to have her space and live her life more on her own terms and releasing responsibilities she had committed to years ago when she lost her parents. She is also grateful that these family relationships have her intimate relationship more focused and open with her present boyfriend which is helping her grow. Now that Rayne is thirty her boyfriend relationship will become a significant focus considering her maturity, but also from the perspective of another astrology technique called annual profections. At age thirty is when the 7th house for anyone is active, from that astrology discipline perspective. The ruler of the 7th house is important throughout the entire year of age thirty, in Rayne’s case it is Aquarius. Once Jupiter enters and Saturn re-enters Aquarius, she will understand this more closely from personal experience.
There is more than one way to read the shake-up or disruption of Uranus transiting Taurus for Rayne – it can link this experience to her house of creativity and her house of pleasures and lovers (Uranus in her 5th house), but with Venus, in the first house it is tied to something of her self-identity, what she shares and projects into the world. Her own Venus in Leo is square the transiting Uranus by sign. Life has unexpected realizations, and astrology gives us a map of potentials. It really helps us dial in the probabilities, where the “events” are in the coming transits. Even with Uranus, this is beneficial to observe transiting Uranus by house and sign because there is a keen awareness of the quality of that time, the timing when such openings are illuminated, or drop in unexpectedly and realized. Uranus is likely part of the mix when you have your deepest and greatest a-ha moments.
When you track the history of Uranus transits to your angles and planets in your natal chart with your personal experience and then weave in the sign, modality, and element you gain deep insight into the divine timing of your individual existence. It is then that when you reflect on your experiences through the lens of astrology you gain a reverence for the clarity and wisdom that it holds for your life, your unique path within the time and places and relationships of your life. You will begin to see experiences of your life story as teachers of your evolutionary intentions and your lunar nodes, their rulers, and their houses and planetary aspects will look like a magnificent compass designed just for you, with you and the universe as the architects.
Rayne’s Saturn return in Capricorn revealed opportunities for her maturity into adulthood – from her travels to acknowledge her work, to the desire to purchase and take on the responsibility of a new car, to her considerable move from her extended family to her own home, she has grown leaps and bounds as she increases her independence. Rayne’s Saturn return journey has notably been stressful, but her experiences are not without great strides in her adult life. When a life story includes the death of one’s parents before their Saturn return, the Saturn return has so much to reveal to the individual about their maturing after great hardships. Rayne will realize in the coming years how much she has grown, and she feels surer of her place in a world full of unknowns and chaotic turbulence. Her strength and perseverance through the greatest of her challenges will become more steadfast. Others will take notice of this transformation and new maturity, and her personal life will benefit from her new sense of self-confidence. Every student of astrology can learn from her shared life story and others. Her experiences have shaped her and continue to shape her. In time, Saturn in Capricorn will create something that is uniquely Rayne and that brings the beat of her drum to all the world and to wherever she walks. Those who have had the opportunity to know her will understand and cherish her beauty.
