Today is October 23, 2015, our sun moves into the sign of Scorpio at 10:48 AM PDT. The autumn season where leaves and plants are in decay and return to the earth to replenish the soil for next year’s growing season. This year, we have Saturn in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces as a major theme that is unfolding (exact on Thanksgiving day for first time). Neptune in Pisces is trine by sign to Scorpio, so during this month there may be an easier flow in some respects into the watery depths of Scorpio with the trine to Pisces and Neptune. It may also take away obstacles that make it easier to slip into the positive or negative side of the energies. Escapism, additions may have little resistance during the easy flow of energy, so it is good to be mindful. With celebration of Halloween in the US we playful escape in make-believe with our children for a moment. However also at this time our sugar addition may be well fed if not careful with some will power. I’ve been drawn to my heritage (Irish/Scottish) to read more about the Gaelic festival Samhain, which is all about marking the end of the harvest and marking the beginning of winter or the “darker half” of the year (*wikipedia), which is celebrated October 31-November 1. There is a lot to remember from the old traditions that were markers in our year for half-way points between the soltices and equinoxes, which as an astrologer I feel more connected within the cycles of time for these moments. I have a deep appreciation for the fall, where those who garden look to replenish and ammend the soil to prepare for the next season of growth. The earth has a rich fragrance as it reclaims this past seasons growth. I love the garden metaphor for our lives too, and ask myself during this time, how am I preparing for new growth in the coming year, where do I want to go, where do I want to put my focus and what do I need to do now to be ready when the sun shines to bring it to life? May the autumn season of change, decomposing and harvest warm you and inspire your inner world for the new seed.
