Friday, November 1, 2024, early morning before dawn at 5:47 am PDT the new moon in Scorpio begins. November 1st is known as All Saints Day for Catholics, All Souls Day, and Day of the Dead for millions of our friends and neighbors. I like the meaning of the Day of the Dead to gather and pay respects to remember family and friends who have died. It is a beautiful tradition. I deeply appreciate whenever humans gather to remember their loved ones beyond the veil, there’s something beautiful in acknowledging our love that is irrespective of time and space, it reminds us of our connections of our hearts that are infinite. In my mind’s eye I can see the array of marigold flowers and home altars with family photos lovingly placed with favorite foods. It is lovely to see a culture that celebrates life and holds a celebration for those who have died. It is not my heritage, but for many in my community it is. I think there are millions of us that desire this type of connection, I think it adds to the beauty of life to have a living connection with the reality of death. It is a truth for every human. My family heritage and ancestors celebrated Samhain and what I love about my family now is that some of them are reviving this part of our ancestors’ reality. My youngest sister creates a feast for Samhain, as she does for the other Celtic holidays, and this ritual of celebration she offers not just to her immediate family but also those of us who witness her from a distance through pictures and notes since we are not close enough to be at her table. What do you do to celebrate life and our connection to the otherworld this time of year? I have a small altar of creative art pumpkins, flowers, with a candle and rosemary with my book for Ceres (Demeter).

This new moon in Scorpio and the month ahead has a mix of energies we all will navigate. Scorpio season is more emotional, stock up on your favorite tissues and select a few good things to comfort your souls as there are a few more heavy bends in the road this lunar month, especially at the full moon on November 15th. The Sabian Symbol for 10 degrees Scorpio is A fellowship supper. Perfect showing the importance of connections in our lives for our social needs. Communication and connection are important, this new moon reminds us to take time to connect and strengthen our emotional bonds that support us in all aspects of life. We may better understand ourselves as humans when we are with friends and family for social identity, for our shared beliefs and what the mutual connection brings as a specific collective group atmosphere that occurs only when we are together. This Scorpio new moon while trine to Saturn (easy flow, no gates to stop the flow) in Pisces heightens intense emotions and possibly the desire to keep them hidden. Also the new moon has a wide square with Pluto in Capricorn (29 degrees 44’) which opposes sensitive and protective Mars in Cancer (29 Cancer) that will be quite volatile if the space to express intense emotions is blocked. This moon and Mars are in each other’s signs (Scorpio-Cancer) and with mutual reception which brings a heightened translation of the dark new moon energy. This energy mix is suitable for some shadow work for what has emerged and to re-examine the feelings and take notes, writing all the feelings down to process into something in 3D. Journaling is one of the tools we all have to get feelings out of our heads, and then out of our bodies with yoga and other somatic work.
Mercury in Scorpio (28 degrees 13’) is separating from an opposition with Uranus in Taurus (retrograde at 25 degrees 52’). The recent exact opposition will still have ripples of emotional tones and perhaps the desire to jab back at whomever disturbed the rhythm of continuity. Consider what you are investigating recently and what has been revealed. There is a coming Mercury retrograde that if you keep digging and researching you may find an answer when Mercury reveals itself beyond the Sun post retrograde. Mercury stations retrograde on November 26 and will transit from 22 degrees Sagittarius to 6 degrees Sagittarius which will act like a trigger when it opposes Jupiter in Gemini at 17 degrees and then squares Saturn at 12 degrees Pisces. Mutable signs receiving the gift that Mercury as Psychopomp is ready to deliver to and from the underworld. What ego death emerges for you? Are you processing long held emotions that need release? We all will realize we cannot hide from ourselves, matters of shadow always come to light for our awareness and need for love. This coming Mercury retrograde begins a week after the full moon, so the cycle will be at the close of this new moon cycle. A challenging month emotionally for us all, so the counterbalance is meditation, yoga, journaling, music that soothes the nervous system and helps us express emotions that perhaps are now finding release based on the experiences that highlight what has been hidden.
Venus in Sagittarius at 17 degrees is 44’ recently square with Saturn and applying to an opposition with Jupiter in Gemini which is exact on November 3rd. Neptune makes it difficult to fully realize the freedom or the adventure in some way as Neptune in Pisces (27 degrees retrograde) complicates it all with a square, bringing a bit of confusion. The lunar nodes at 6 degrees 11’ Aries-Libra are in the two months before the ingress into Pisces-Virgo happening on January 11, 2025 (3:02 pm PST/ True Node), the mean node changes on January 28, 2025 at 10:49:14 pm PST. As the North Node moves to 29 degrees Pisces January 11 (and the mean node January 28th) It will be a good time to observe what emerges for you with the exit of the lunar nodes from cardinal Aries-Libra to the mutable signs of Pisces-Virgo. The shift from Mars-Venus as rulers of the transiting lunar nodes goes to Jupiter (+Neptune) and Mercury. Creative works will have an incredible boost when Jupiter and Neptune rule the lunar north node. We have a few more months to act courageously and understand the importance of relationships, social justice, and when it is healthy to let go and surrender something to the universe, the divine, spirit, god, goddess, whatever name you wish.
We have significant long cycle shifts happening this lunar month. The big one is Pluto leaving Capricorn (for another 230 years -the next era of Pluto in Capricorn starts on February 27, 2254 at 8:56:28 am PST) and making the ingress back into Aquarius where it will stay until January 19, 2044. We will be the great-great-great-great-great-great ancestors. What contemporary literary greats of our time will be studied. What great tragedies will they wonder why we did or did not take for our humanity? What advances did we make scientifically and spiritually? What artists are revered and music added to classics? What will our future families think about our lives? How might they ponder our souls on a day set aside for remembering the dead? How might we remember our own soul journeys from life-to-life in that time? It is a fascinating exercise to think of our future families and friends and what they will experience from choices we made. Namaste. Bless this moment.
