Early this morning several hours before dawn on the west coast the full moon in Aries was exact at 4:27 am PDT on October 17, 2024. Today will have moments where energetically will reveal a fullness to this lunar cycle. This Aries full moon brings raw energy forward, powerful when coded with courage rather than malevolence. Chiron conjunct this full moon within 3 ½ degrees is a potent reminder of our need to be seen, to be acknowledged and the right of existence in an often challenging world. Sun in Libra is energizing the dynamic and light towards balance and fairness. If your values have been ruffled by recent events anywhere in the world this full moon brings it forward to prod you to act and be part of the changing paradigm. The old paradigm is in its death throes as Pluto finishes the sign of Capricorn in just over a month.
Pluto stationed direct this past Sunday, so its speed is even slower thus it emphasizes the urgency and immediacy of our need for change. Our systems and our infrastructure need everything that hasn’t worked in the past 233 to be seen, only then can we have awareness to make a new choice collectively. Mars rules Aries, though it is presently in Cancer. With the Moon in Aries there is mutual reception between the light translation of these two planetary bodies. Actions and our instinctual responses are quite dynamic. Decisions are likely to be made quickly to move forward and with passion. Emotional exchanges will be forward and many will make life altering choices at this time. Mars in Cancer will also have a deep desire to protect the self, so either you or someone you love is making choices this week as part of their desire for boundaries and protecting themselves in some capacity. Some will take action to help others in significant ways, because they are wired for protecting others as a mechanism to protect themselves. They are community minded and understand from their experience the power of community strength for security versus doing it alone. Which way do you lean when things are truly and deeply challenging in your world?
Mercury in Scorpio guides us through shadow material and nightmares, but also the focus and deep inquiries that will bring up whatever is ready to be purged from the depth of our psyche. Mercury is separating from Pluto in Capricorn, in the past week the square of Mercury and Pluto would highlight our fears of death, or perhaps the challenges we face collectively with the yearly natural disasters and ongoing war and crimes that sink our collective humanity into deep grief and sorrow. We can create change, through reaching out and helping wherever we can to ease the burdens of our world. Perceptions and then thoughts will have an edgy distrust.
Venus in Scorpio at this full moon is at 29 degrees 35’ and will enter Sagittarius on October 17th, just 9 hours after this full moon. Venus in Scorpio recently opposed to Uranus still has the stinger of what may have surfaced when they were exact this past week. Unexpected endings, a new betrayal, or perhaps an unexpected issue on money or debt that has to be managed now. As Venus enters Sagittarius there will emerge a new freedom, a new chapter that lifts, though Venus applying to a square with Saturn in Pisces will be a bit of an obstacle for establishing boundaries and defined rules of engagement in redefined relationships. Venus in the past few days has been trine with Mars in Cancer and can be experienced with harmful substances trying to feel. Mars in Cancer and Venus in Scorpio may also have experiences that draw out information that reveals the weakness. Our task is always to move towards integration, and not simply sitting with information. We must dig in, and have time to consider new information from experiences. We need space and time to contemplate, to process and become more connected to ourselves, astrology can simplify that reflection time.
Jupiter in Gemini is retrograde (recently stationed October 9th) and at 21 degrees 13”. While Jupiter squares with Saturn in Pisces there is tension between duality (this and that) of Gemini. Expansion comes with intense inquiries, lots of questions gathering information, heavy cerebral mind activity and what that informs us about ourselves and our environment. Saturn in Pisces, a sign Jupiter co-rules (with Neptune for modern astrology), the square aspect is complex with challenges with restriction of feeling, with mobility, and challenges that surface because we try to “think” our way through when we need to consider the important of the balance between heart and mind, so allowing our hearts space to step into vulnerability in order to grow. Jupiter will be in Gemini until February 4, 2025. Jupiter makes a trine (easy flow) with the Sun in Libra and sextile to the Moon in Aries. Jupiter and Saturn square in mutable signs is also an opportunity to learn where we have been feeling (Pisces) limitations or restrictions and learn more about ourselves by getting curious. Where does curiosity lead to open the heart and offer a release valve? Saturn in Pisces also brings a quality of sitting in devoted spiritual solitude too. So much may be gained from limiting external growth with our own authority, our dedicated discipline to observe our inner world can lead to other cycles of growth that could only be realized through a discipline of reflection.
Uranus in Taurus retrograde 26 Taurus 25’ continues to open inner fault lines and bring about changes. Life is demanding a lot from us now, especially to acknowledge our emotional well-being, an awareness of body-mind-spirit well-being. It is daily to be alert for ourselves and our loved ones about what may be happening in the broader world but also listening for what is happening on our inner plane. How our intuition may guide us through difficult moments. Large events have materialized in this recent eclipses with the Pisces lunar eclipse (25 degrees 41 minutes) on September 17th and the solar eclipse in cardinal sign Libra (10 degrees 4 minutes) on October 2nd. This full moon brings a lot of things into an ending chapter as the sun was on the south node of the recent solar eclipse. Emotional energies have been high for some time, and continue. It is our task to disconnect from too much stimulation and sooth our systems, as our adrenals will be working overtime with the energies as they have been for some time.
Neptune in Pisces is perfect for imagination play with a lot of curious energy with Jupiter in Gemini. Exploring the arts, visiting local museums, and helping humanity in small ways are supportive for our own heart energy and mind while we navigate the challenging moments we are either helping from a distance or managing through right now. Neptune is not a personal planet, it is a transpersonal planet. We can get swept up in something and lose our way if we are not diligent in how we consciously act with bigger community, national, and global themes. The positive way to be a part of something is being of service to humanity in small ways. Doing what is manageable within your capacity is how we can work with Neptune in Pisces, as there will be plenty of souls that need our help.
Pluto in Capricorn for only 33 more days and it will re-enter Aquarius on November 19th and stay there for the next 20 years. Pluto in Capricorn has been an upheaval of the dead wood of what exists in our systems and infrastructure that need be removed and renovated for the next age, when Pluto is in Aquarius. Technology and other aspects of life that are within the archetypal context of Aquarius are next up on the deep transformation. We may use technology, but we collectively need to understand how to use it and other things so as not to harm ourselves. Pluto will reveal to us what is needed to transform how we operate with it and the way we create things for fairness in our social structures. It will be an interesting period of our collective history, especially when Uranus enters Gemini there will be a quickening to the transformation of how we engage and communicate and ideas will quickly manifest in our reality changing the world we understand now quite quickly. July 7, 2025, will be the beginning of that chapter, and that is just around the corner in a few months. What might you add to your skills or learn something new about how you perceive and communicate with others? I recommend taking a moment to consider how you might challenge yourself to another level of communication and that might take place in an art form that you find calls to you now. It is a time of great change. Do you keep a journal? If not, perhaps you take short videos and time for reflection that will be good reminders in a few years how far things change in the next few years. Consider the world in the late 1990’s and how much it changed in the fall of 2001. Life has giant steps in new directions, this next year is one of those periods in time. Take time to be present, to acknowledge exactly where and how far we have come. Namaste. Bless this moment.
