The new moon in Gemini occurs tonight at 9:37 pm PDT, June 17th, 2023. For some, this will be on June 18th, depending on your location. What I find most important is this moon is out of bounds (beyond the sun’s ecliptic), so with that we will see a more wild card kind of month related to anything Mercurial. With Mercury’s transit now in Gemini, it’s domain and where it moves things along rather quickly as that is what the energy is, movement, transitions, keeping things in motion where it may have settled or become stagnant and the curiosity may be quite high and jumping from thought to thought or question to question. This new moon at the 26th degree of Gemini sets the tone for this lunar month. Mercury is in a waning square with Saturn that is stationing retrograde. In this heightened tension our meetings, and our plans may have emotional undercurrents that we have to navigate even if it means we delay our best-set intentions to allow space for emotional expressions.
Saturn stationing retrograde is the most significant challenge presently that we must understand as the vessel that gives shape to our emotional expression. Saturn has the full stop for the retrograde today at 10:27 pm PT (1:27 pm ET) and will move through the first 7 degrees of Pisces until November 4th when it stations direct at 0 degrees Pisces 31 minutes. With Saturnat this speed, it heightens our intensity of feeling and where we feel limits or feel restrained. With this on the day of the new moon, we must consider how important this is for WHAT we are challenged to communicate and then ask ourselves WHY. At this time, maybe for the first part of this lunar month, we have the restriction of restraints but then we have to navigate through our emotions and pride over the days following the new moon as the moon transits through the sign of Cancer where emotions will rise and our instinct to protect also rises. And then the moon moves into Leo where we find our heart space. At a new moon in Gemini, I like to bring to your awareness the sequence of movement because Mercury’s domain is about movement and connections.
Conversations now have an intense emotional charge. It may be we are confronting something we have become aware of for us that also impacts someone else. We may have fear connected to this conversation. It will be difficult to think positively with this planetary combination. There may be an urge to self-isolate, as the mental workout or stimulation may overwhelm our adrenals system. A moment in time when the energy is highly probable for too much stress and the increase of cortisol in our system. I think it wise to consider what the immediate stress is to manage that and set new expectations wherever possible. Our fast-paced society is often out of alignment with healthy natural rhythms. It is up to us to give ourselves the space and time to return to our center. This includes having difficult conversations. This Saturn square Mercury is often expressed for the majority of people with a negative lens on something in life or their experience in connection.
This is not a good time for important negotiations, our good intentions can have a negative result. This is a reminder that timing is important in how and when we respond or direct our communication. It is sometimes prudent to wait, such as when the moon is not in a sign square to Saturn or Mars. Children will have a more difficult time this weekend and for a few days to self-regulate their emotions. As a parent, you may be helping your children through a heightened volume of thoughts and ideas, and curious questions. If you have curious little children it can be a real mental stimulation for trying to understand something really significant in their world. Remember you are their tree of wisdom. Decrease digital stimulus where possible and provide space for play that is more earthy and sensorial. Water activities may be incredibly challenging, whereas earth, hiking a trail, gardening, and sandbox fun would be more soothing with Jupiter in Taurus. Astrology is a tool that with its knowledge we gain this understanding about any given moment in time. Pluto retrograde in Capricorn will continue to reveal truths that has been out of view for us collectively, and the timing is now for us to see whatever has been hidden. Pluto in Capricorn is finishing the process of deep transformation of systems, structures, authorities (such as leaders), and anything that energetically needs to be transformed before Pluto transit deeper into Aquarius (which is around November 2024). The “truth” will be
One more key consideration for Saturn stationing at this new moon in Gemini square Mercury is that it can be something we use for a creative project that we edit later. There is a flow of thought and that may be quite useful creatively. It may surface in our writing or our play what needs movement from within us, what needs to surface for us to have a greater reflection. So a good few days for writing streams of consciousness or playful improv. These activities may help us move something that needs our light.
Venus and Mars are in Leo at this new moon. This energy can bring out our inner child. How might you create fun that supports your heart’s expression? What do you give yourself now that perhaps when you were a child you wanted? Celebrate that you can create what makes your heart joyful. We are creative beings and we feel the essence of our loving self when we embrace our creative potential. It’s all in time because Saturn always plays its role. Where will you courageously create your inner child? What are your dreams?
Have you ever wondered why you have a desire to create something? I ponder such things when I have a quiet moment like now as I write this. As a parent, I know these moments during the raising of children are fewer, because we focus so much on our children, which is a blessing, but it also had me realize something this morning. Self-reflection for individuation is quite fragmented for parents. It comes in wisps of time that are often interrupted, so it can take a full lunar nodal return (18+ years) sometimes to realize something significant for ourselves because it takes a lot to put all the fragmented a-ha moment into a chunk of understanding and new awareness. When I write it out like this, I’m reminded of the children’s rhyme of Humpty Dumpty. And there we have an interesting view of Saturn square Mercury because it begs the curious question – Can we put Humpty Dumpty back together again? And then some curious ways I find where my own mind goes on that thought, some insights from others (some call the hive mind we have with others through social media or videos). See the video link on Humpty Dumpty for the origins, Jon Solo has a lot of great insights I think anyone will appreciate and this video in particular on Humpty Dumpty fits so well with this Gemini new moon energy. Consider this: we never have full insight into the wholeness of our LIVES from our Mercurial Minds; we are all just touching a part of the proverbial elephant of LIFE and can only speak of that which we touch, so we really do not see the full picture of that wholeness.
Sometimes self-reflection that truly moves the dial for us on healing parts of ourselves only happens when things fall away. We do not like it, as most humans do not like change, but only in hindsight do we realize how important a specific time is for us for our own evolution. Turbulent times bring about our greatest change.
At this new moon in Gemini may you find a moment in serenity to consider these themes and give yourself grace wherever you need it. It is then you will feel your heart shifts within for wherever you wish to go and create again. Bless this moment. Namaste.
