Friday, July 9, 2021, we begin a new lunar month with the MOON and SUN in Cancer at 6:17 pm PST. Both at 18 degrees Cancer 01 minute are applying to Pluto about 7 degrees orb, so not exactly opposite, but moving into greater intensity for the moon. The moon exactly opposes PLUTO on Saturday around 9:10 am PST. The Sun moves into exact opposition with Pluto on Saturday, July 17th. This dynamic is the high polarity and tension between the emotional needs of self, the need for safety, home, and family in contrast to the demands of a powerful authority or duty and unbalanced expectations for what one can give.
A deep transformation in relation to moon themes is significant this lunar month. A decision about one’s emotional well-being is “charged” this month. Emotional well-being is a process, you move through grief properly. So, depending on where you are in that process determines where you FLOW in this month. It can be to experience emotions as you open to feel them, and that is healthy. If your soul (especially water sign Cancer’s Ascendant (Rising Signs), Sun and Moon) is in a process to shed something, it needs to in order to make room for new roots for where you grow from here.
The MOON carries many layers of symbolism, one is a connection to our sense of security for our human emotions. It also symbolically illuminates a significant woman in our lives, often carrying the symbolism of one’s mother. But I think two additional insights that are critical are the amount of LIGHT one has in their natal chart on their moon, the phase. And secondly, what house is the moon located, as well as where (what house) is the sign of Cancer. This new moon, is a lunar month perspective on themes, but each time we have a new moon, we get a new opportunity to bring deeper awareness to our lives and our emotional well being. Each lunar month changes the focus and how the energy applies to other planets. TIMING in life is so key for how we may act with purpose or respond. Timing is really tied to the moon in any astrological election, astrologers know to consider — where’s the moon?!
What is interesting about the moon and timing is the feminine YIN quality of it, which is more about the FLOW than it is about precision. Precision is more YANG. Quite interesting, don’t you think that they are so blended in our contemporary approach? So, here is a thought to carry this lunar month that may allow more YIN energy into our experience and OPEN. YIN flows. YANG directs. When we allow flow more than directing we are allowing the universe to play with us and we observe more which then pulls us into reflection, which is more flow. Have you ever simply let go of directing the intention and simply saying I am open and desire to experience something unique stated in your morning or perhaps in your journal the night before the coming day? This month there is an abundance of the water element, so releasing your grip and moving into FLOW is easier.
We often use astrology in a YANG approach, to control our experience. And in all my years, I have learned the biggest a-ha moments only came when I RELEASED my grip and let the universe (LIFE) show me something I could never in my wildest DREAMS imagine. What opens your HEART? What experiences do you desire? Playing with asking and releasing it to emerge is spontaneous fun and will playfully show you your unique connection to EVERYTHING that nothing else can. TRUST that you will be pleasantly surprised. YIN is experienced more when TRUST exists. YIN flows when we acknowledge, “Yes, I am safe. I am alive. I am open to joy.” It is simple. Yet, sometimes, especially after difficult experiences we find ourselves blocked, or inertia has settled into our minds and our bones. Observing flow helps many of us return to flow. What do you do to observe flow? Many go to the water, the rivers in my local community are this place of flow. Or simply a walk in nature. Or watching children play and spin. Where do you go when you are letting “stuff” go?
This moon and sun in Cancer is in a trine (~120 degrees) with the planet NEPTUNE. Neptune is a transpersonal planet. We are pulled into the greatness of LIFE, which is without boundaries. NEPTUNE is SURRENDERING. Friends may say, “I give it to God.” That is the surrendering statement, which informs the individual’s ego that I am not in the driver’s seat on this matter, there is something much bigger than “me”, “myself” and “I” on this. Consider this lunar month a period where you may state this on some matter for yourself, and you move into FORGIVENESS for yourself and others. That is a surrendering that enables growth for new life.
This lunar month with the trine with NEPTUNE as the beginning seed is also a well for creativity with FLOW. Creating art, music, and perhaps beautiful images and cinematography. Films that inspire emotional well-being, creativity, the juice of what makes us HUMAN is FLOWING this lunar month. JUPITER, albeit retrograde, is in Pisces adding to the flow. It may be a month where many people TRAVEL somewhere they have never been, that is a real Jupiter in Pisces, where it takes you right into the present moment because you are so far from anything you know. This is another way we live life in FLOW, and how it really is about our attention so fully in the present moment. Here’s the interesting thing, reflection is YIN, but often reflection is looking back and with the present moment new awareness, so it is a combination! YIN flows, so staying stuck in the reflection can pull you out of YIN as well.
MERCURY in Gemini at 27 degrees 32 minutes is near the sign of Cancer too, making its ingress there on July 11th (Sunday). Our cerebral experiences will shift to FEELINGS. Our perception and thoughts will increasingly be our focus in our EMOTIONAL BODIES. Take a measurement now while Mercury is in fact-specific Gemini. In a few days, you will sense the shift to YIN in our collective focus. Our perception and thought streams at any given moment are amplified by Mercury.
VENUS and MARS in Leo are in the heart space. There is added resonance with being adored and playful. Consider how VENUS is conjunct Mars on July 13th, building toward that conjunction, which will then start a new synodic cycle for them from Leo. Our DESIRES are open to our HEARTS to experience and express both! We will see this especially when the Sun moves into Leo,but this lunar month is the emotional foundation that gives these two the lift when that is amplified by the Sun. Our play, our inner child, the authentic voice of who we are is on stage. Although they are opposite SATURN in Aquarius (11 degrees / retrograde) at this new synodic cycle they have moved beyond that exact opposition by over 8 degrees and are waning.
The Lunar NORTH NODE in Gemini makes an easy trine aspect with Saturn giving us support for following up on some earlier commitments. URANUS in Taurus at 14 degrees will already have made the square with Venus on July 8th, but it is rather tight at the new moon moment, so that may activate at the new moon, or be an experience of the balsamic moon in the days prior to this new moon that opens another door to a part of yourself that is being LIBERATED. Perhaps leading up to this new moon you made a choice or something “landed” in your experience that redirects how you relate (Venus). We often forget that one new and even seemingly small or subtle experience can redirect us and what we desire. Jupiter, ruler of the Lunar SOUTH NODE in Sagittarius, enables a purge, but is also a gateway to excess and binging. Careful what you wish for this new moon.
Only when we FLOW and with our YIN energy are we in a surrendering and from that state of being we are PRESENT and LIFE experienced is simple yet fulfilling. Namaste. Bless this moment.
