Sunday, February 5, 2023, the moon reaches its full lunation in the sign of Leo at 10:27 am PST (1:27 pm EST). This full moon is intense, it highlights the lunar nodes on the angles and Uranus square from Taurus. Saturn and Uranus square by sign in Aquarius-Taurus, and by degrees they are past an orb of significant influence but by sign still active and revealing sudden surprises of experience that can reshape anyone within the mid degrees of fixed signs, especially the angles, sun, and moon. So there can be surprising developments leading up to the full moon, the day of the full moon as it makes aspects to Saturn in opposition after its square off with Uranus.
Uranus in this is the disruptor, the surprise energetic pulse that unfolds something into the material world like chaos in a matter of minutes. This will be seen in external events you experience, witness, or observe from a distance. It may also speak to inner earthquakes that shake you and reveal the cracks within and their shifts are now visible and notable for you. From this you are then discerning what you will do with this new awareness (likely incredibly uncomfortable) that is seeking light and the time for transformation has begun. With an astrology reading of your own birth chart and learning how the transits and progressions are activated, you become aware and you see a map of this archetypally for you to know the path to navigate. As I have mentioned to many clients in their readings, when I see outer planets, especially angular in fixed signs there is an opening – the crack in the cement if you will, for new growth to emerge. Often and depending on other variables of a person’s birth chart, the crack that is revealed in a moment may grow and shift depending on one’s chart, no matter if crack and separation or crack and repair, there is change that must be navigated.
Because the lunar nodes are so prominent in this lunar full moon moment, this dynamic adds to the unexpected burst of chaotic Urnanian energy and its implications and how it will translate into earthly experiences for us. The south node in Scorpio reminds us that there can be a swift loss (Mars in Gemini direct) and with all planets moving direct the planetary transits are outwardly focused, Scorpio can be unexpected deaths or illness, or the surge outpouring of feelings, which can be grief, sadness, bonding wounds, or the like.
Mars in Gemini square Venus in Pisces invoke high tension around our feminine and masculine expressions in art, traveling, and places where the archetypes are amplified by their city or country too. At the individual level, we can view this as tension that presents us sometimes chosen sometimes just the moment where the “karmic wave” breaks, as Steven Forrest calls it. It is the moment where have endings that are chapters that we must find the courage to walk through and still find all the beauty of whatever is. Mars is still out of bounds.
Venus in Pisces may show us a poem or a piece of music that speaks to an intense feeling and emotion. Mars in Gemini, in our higher potential, is how we activate our free will, every moment is an opportunity for love or fear and what we decide to attach deeper meaning. Mars in Gemini is active and can be sharp in how we receive what is being spoken. Mercury in Capricorn is conjunct Pluto, so there is power behind the movement, the spoken and written word. But also the dredging up of the past and the implications of the dark side of authority. The facts shared, or whatever is pulled from the depths have an impact, and most likely shocking to know how deep and dark it can take us about the collective history we all are working to acknowledge one stone turned at a time. Reflection on the horror of injustice, the themes of loss and grief, and the nightmare some souls faced is important for us too. Pluto is in the final weeks before its ingress to Aquarius on March 23rd. Not long after on May 1, it stations retrograde at 0 degrees Aquarius 22 minutes. However, Pluto continues the final sweep of Capricorn when retrograde and takes a spin back into Capricorn on June 11th. It will take a few months to reach the date it stations direct on October 10, 2023, at 27 Capricorn 53 minutes. Pluto will re-enter the sign of Aquarius on January 20, 2024 with the sun at the moment it is entering Aquarius that same year.
We heal by acknowledging exactly where we are, allowing space to grieve, so we may move forward. Our forward movement can emerge more embodied, with simple spiritual principles practicing forgiveness (including self in any lens of collective connection/ 1st house and 7th house axis) and gratitude for what is realized (the revelation, your revelation). We do not have to repeat the past. But do not be surprised that the past often repeats for us to figure out where we are evolving either. There is always a macro and micro perspective, your experiences are uniquely yours even if hard to fathom within the context of 8 billion souls. The path to individuation is yours, and yet, when you make progress it supports the evolution of the whole. Can feel isolating sometimes as you cannot hear the cheers for that one new choice you made, the brave new direction you decided to take after numerous failures. In your life, you are the hero of the hero’s journey. The Aquarian Sun and Saturn finishing their path through Aquarius these next four weeks before it enters Pisces on March 7th. Aquarian energy is about individuals in a collective group.
Dane Rudhyar’s Sabian Symbol for 17 degrees Leo is a volunteer church choir singing religious hymns. He expanded this in his own words as, the feeling of togetherness which unites men and women in their dedication to a collective ideal. The Sabian Symbol for the degree of this full moon helps us see the symbolism of meaning from another perspective. How are you, your soul, refreshed when you feel connected to a group focused on the uplifting of others or where you share values and beliefs? That is at the essence here, even in the face of chaos our feelings and experiences of togetherness hold our hearts and uplift us. How are you experiencing this theme or are you witnessing it?
Neptune in Pisces at 23 degrees 44’ is sextile Mercury in Capricorn at 22 degrees 31’. Are you bringing skills you have mastered over time into the realm of imagination? Mercury in Capricorn is facilitating long-term plans, defining new milestones that once written will be beacons on a path of transformation, it needs a vision, and your imagination (Pisces) to give it color, shape, and feeling to activate. What time bounds do you give it? What if you took away the idea of time, what is possible with new ways in can materialize? You may be surprised by how it flows from your dream to reality. Keep defining the structures of your creation. You are a creator after all, and Mercury is the messenger, moves things along, and directs the energies. The moon translates light and activates. Just around the bend in time here is the Pisces New Moon coming February 20th, where the Sun-Moon union brings a month of shifting sands of time when Saturn moves into Pisces on March 7th.
The metaphor or image that comes to mind with Saturn in Pisces is a wise elder who takes time to be alone, reflecting, knowing that what they need comes from the space of solitude. A time to face the Self, perhaps even with a sobering pause, to face all that is opening, what one has come to know, and time to integrate what is valuable and surrender anything else. It is a period of withdrawal, a time to be the observer of Self. How will you create that space when life moves in a culture that demands your presence, and may capture your unfocused mind? Melancholy is natural and we should give ourselves space and a place in the natural ebb and flow of our full cycle of being. Practice saying no to things so you can create your space for solitude.
On a last note I want to highlight is when big planets like Saturn and any of the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) leave a sign there is an intensity of the archetype of the planet into life expressions. We have it twice in March with Saturn leaving Aquarius, and then Pluto leaving Capricorn (first wave) as it makes a very big shift for us all on March 23rd. Then in May, Jupiter leaves Aries and enters Taurus. Reflecting on these transitions, here are a few historical points to consider.
Going back in time to March of 2011, Uranus was leaving Pisces just before it was to enter Aries, and east Japan was hit with massive earthquakes and then a devastating tsunami. The event was only 12 Years ago, a Jupiter cycle ago. Jupiter was in Aries when that event occurred, but perhaps more important is to note that Uranus leaving Pisces in March 2011 was so significant. Even though the earthquake epicenter was out in the ocean off the coast, the damage it caused changed the area for miles forever and nearly twenty thousand people perished. The tsunami was a swift and deadly wall of water (Pisces). At that time, we had been a few years into the Pluto in Capricorn years and a few years after numerous banks had failed within our economy. When Pluto left the sign of Sagitarrius (excess) in January 2008, it is important to realize that the excessive need for profit at all costs let to corruption that would eventually lead to a breakdown. The Pluto Capricorn years have been deeply challenging and transformative to old structures, fading paradigms, old systems, and the revealing of our corruption at the highest places of power.
The volumes of what we have learned through experience and navigated over the past 15 years have been like climbing Mt. Everest. It is valuable to see these charts of when these planets, especially Pluto and Uranus left a sign to see where other planets tell us the story of significant events, or at a minimum reveal something to us about the broad themes we all will collectively have to navigate. As Pluto leaves Capricorn, what really significant event will help us understand something deeper about the cycle? What news stories in the United States for example are showing us all a deeper truth, and what will we do with that understanding?
The misuse of power and authority has corrupted our systems and manipulated or damaged our natural resources, but it is more than that, it goes deeper into the ways we govern ourselves. How do we work through the horrors of history, and grieve what has been revealed of the seemingly endless corruption and abuses of power? The dark side of traditional values (Capricorn) has been revealed, and we all get to decide what is to be done, or our desire to create these structures better, and more inclusive. We can consciously forgive, surrender into this moment now and continue our evolutionary intentions. And then another chapter emerges with new themes, these will be technology and how it is used to control groups of people in society, other shadow potentials that emerge will be perhaps our biggest test yet, and that is our boom into greater use of artificial intelligence. How do the chapter themes bleed into the next? Have you thought about fixed ideas and what change will happen as Pluto moves fully into Aquarius? And then it will pick up speed when Uranus enters Gemini on April 25, 2026. Each generation will bring something forward that we need in this evolutionary journey. Finding ways to unfold your own soul’s evolutionary intentions I think are more important than ever. When individuals seek to evolve, then interestingly enough the universe has an amazing way to show a path of life that supports that, and life flows with rich fulfillment. It is a process, and in that process we find we adapt and our growth beckons us on the path.
Namaste. Bless this Moment.
