Full moon in Cancer today, January 6, 2023, at 3:08 pm PST. This full moon is out-of-bounds beyond the ecliptic of the Sun. Mars is also out-of-bounds at this full moon, so anticipate elevated emotional waves that may need your pause and attention. Mars in Gemini beginning the slow down of retrograde to station direct next week may have many challenges with communications, especially the more direct and fierce communication. Mars is also out-of-bounds so will appear to behave more wildly in communications and perceptions. Mars is in the 12th house of this full moon chart, so it can be a challenge to see the conflict or the matter fully. Mercury retrograde in Capricorn also is more challenging to get to the final perspective on the matter, there is much evaluation happening still.
Full moon in Cancer will pull us (feminine) toward our sense of nurturing and protecting those we love and it will be exaggerated in some way. Moon in the first house, for us on the west coast of the US-Canada, and the moon in its domain, cardinal sign and it is angular so a really strong Cancer Full Moon. The moon is also widely in aspect by a trine with Neptune in Pisces and the south node in Scorpio. A significant open channel for water element, feelings, and emotions to flow, and the south node of release.
Chiron in Aries is squaring this full moon, so it may be challenging to feel seen and validated for whatever we are feeling. Chiron and Jupiter in Aries emphasize our hearts having a dynamic breaking-open awareness. Sometimes more dramatic than others. Aries wounds are centered on independence, being authentically expressed, and to take up space with your own will and purpose. Just two days ago, the Earth reached the exact perihelion on January 4 at 11:17 A.M. Eastern Time and will be at aphelion on July 6 at 4:06 P.M. Eastern Time, per the Farmer’s Almanac. Chiron is aphelion in Aries and thus is slowly on the path towards the sun again (inward journey). Chiron in Aries in natal charts may reflect early hostile environments, and potentially aggressive, and what may be suppressed has to find a path to expression to actualize authentic self and will. Melanie Reinhart says, once we learn that the vulnerability we fear is actually an asset rather than a liability; the sense of having to struggle to assert our existence can relax.” Chiron and The Healing Journey, pg 116. Melanie also notes, “Learning not to focus on what we don’t want is one of the lessons of this placement.” pg 117.
A square aspect is a moment of crisis that we are tasked to maneuver wherever it lands for us in the context of our own chart in this case, Cancer (Moon) and Aries (Chiron /and Jupiter). This is also an opening square (first crisis point) of the moon with Chiron in this cycle. Collectively this is first house (identity) and the public collective groups where conflicts are more visible. What voices are being challenged? Is there a transformation opportunity on the horizon for what presents at this crisis point for a specific group? If Aries is in your 4th house of a family (for example) and Cancer is the 7th house of your chart, it can be something going on for you related to your partner/spouse unexpectedly and you will need to manage through whatever is “landing” and being realized in reality (cardinal is sudden). Everyone has a unique natal chart, but general archetypal themes are experienced and relative to millions. I do think you will find the macro (larger groups) rather easily on your news today, (this week, as things have been highlighted in our government), but also you may see it at the micro-level in your life, for example in a group dynamic you are involved in for the community or some humanitarian based focused groups, there may be something that is challenged for the identity and has to have a “shake-up or shake-down” before the identity can be re-framed with new insights on something learned (hopefully) at this crisis point. I hope that grants some perspective for understanding the emotionally heightened energy of this full moon. It is dramatic with a capital D.
This feminine energy is out-of-bounds and will have our protective instincts on high alert. Be mindful of how that may be “received” by those you love. Our concern and readiness to protect can sometimes be averted on purpose for the desire for personal independence too. How hard we set expectations can also be the same amount of determined desire to go where we want to go and do whatever we want. Jupiter is in Aries, simply give them the rules of engagement for speedbumps and trust that they have a journey to figure out some things on their own. It is a balance, being centered in our faith and by speaking calmly will make a greater impact than the opposite. The need to listen, and be pulled in toward that protection is simply (feminine) powerful. It may be hard to find compromise during this full moon, but it is well worth the effort. The advice may be worth its weight in gold, simply because the words of wisdom from experience can be a guide for the youthful desires of freedom and independence that lacks the experience to know when something is not a good idea for their own well-being. Protectors need to consider how to manage protection when or if the variables change rather quickly, and what are paths to support even from a distance.
I appreciate what Blain Bovee has stated for the Sabian Symbol for 17 degrees of Cancer.
The germ grows into knowledge and life
Organic unfolding…
Isn’t it fascinating that ‘germ’ is a word rooted in words that trace back to wife and marriage in their ancient Greek form.
In Cancer 17 the potential contained in the ‘code’… which means the capacity to grow into a seed… actually comes to life in a generative process whose unfolding is guided by the inherent coding.
In order to appreciate this symbol and the process of development it expresses, think of a small plant seed germinating in the ground, developing tender roots which must find their way through stone, sand and all manner of natural obstacles.
In a way, the stones, sand and obstacles for growth are an essential part of the journey to fulfillment. This may be the key insight regarding Cancer 17. First you have the code… the plan for development… then you have the reality of a life situation encountering obstacles along the way.
Encountering serious obstacles along the way may result in a sense of defeat, but the main message of cancer 17 is to stay true to the code: life will prevail.
Venus in Aquarius is sextile Jupiter in Aries which symbolically is supporting friendship, an opportunity to build rapport with a unique expression of self-authenticity. Being alive at our fullest, the cosmic planetary transits are inviting our wild sides to “exhale” while we also inhale newfound energetic support, on some level of our experience. How might you align with that energy for yourself? The key here is feminine energy, it is about allowing, and add the intelligence to know when and how to check in so there is an opportunity for growth, with some insight only known by experience so your loved ones are their own captains but you have the map when needed for certain new situations. All the mamma bears are focused on high alert.
Namaste. Bless this moment.
